Thomas A. Carton

Biography

Thomas A. Carton is a founder and director of Bullaro & Carton, P.C.  He focuses his practice on insurance defense, insurance converage, professional liability, product liability, construction injury litigation, construction defect litigation, mass and toxic torts, trucking and freight liability and general tort litigation.  Mr. Carton has decades of experience, handling cases in state and federal courts throughout Illinois and Indiana. 

Mr. Carton is "AV Preeminent" peer review rated by Martindale-Hubbell, reflecting the highest peer recognition for ethical standards and legal ability.  He was also selected as among Chicago's Top Rated Lawyers for 2015 in Insurance Law, Products Liability and Professional Liability.

Mr. Carton's practice encompasses all phases of the claims and litigation process.  He has been selected by several major corporations to serve as a regional litigation counsel.  He represents major insurance companies in prosecuting and defending declaratory judgement actions.  Mr. Carton is called upon to provide coverage opinions involving complex issues of policy interpretation for claims arising from professional, personal/advertising injury and general liability policies including multi-jurisdictional disputes involving excess umbrella and additional insured coverage.  In addition, he has successfully defended insurance companies against claims of bad faith and breach of contract.  Mr. Carton has also served as a Judge Pro Tem of Lake County Superior Court, Indiana.

Education/Bar Admissions

Mr. Carton received a B.A. cum laude in political science in 1975 from Augustana College.  He received his J.D. cum laude from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1978.

He was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1978 and the Indiana bar in 1986 and also has been admitted to the following federal trial and appellate courts:

  • U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois
  • U.S. District Court, Northern District of Indiana
  • U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana
